Healthy Care and Maintenance Routines for Smartwatches
There are many things that set smartwatches and smartphones apart. One of these is the amount of care that watches need in comparison to phones. Since they are constantly on your wrist instead of spending a large portion of the day in your pocket, they will get dirtier and take more of a beating. This is why you should follow our guide on healthy care and maintenance routines for your smartwatches. We believe these tips will help your watch last significantly longer.
Regularly Check Watch for Damage
It’s very easy to bump your hands and arms into objects while walking past them. While this usually doesn’t matter to you, it could affect your smartwatch. That’s why it’s good to give your watch a thorough inspection every so often. Be sure to check for cracks or dents on the exterior of the watch itself as well as tiny tears on its straps.
If you catch a problem early on, there might be some at-home remedies that you can use to fix it up. Unfortunately, even if the issue you find is minor, there might not be anything you can do about it. Just make sure you set some time aside to take it to a place that can fix it up as good as new for you. Don’t let it go unfixed for too long, though, or else the issue will get even worse.
If you’re thinking about getting your child a kids’ video call watch, like the ones we have on our website, then you’ll want to doubly make sure that you consistently look over their watch. Children are much less careful than adults, so they are more prone to breaking it without realizing it.
Charge It Up Properly
This is one healthy care and maintenance routine for your smartwatch that some people turn into a bad one. A common practice for watch owners is to take it off and charge it while they sleep. This is not a great idea for two reasons. The first is the fact that you will undoubtedly overcharge it every night. Lithium-Ion batteries only have about 300 to 500 charges before they begin to fail. That means the more you overcharge it, the less time that battery will last.
The other reason why you shouldn’t charge it every night is it might not always need it. You likely don’t fully deplete the battery every day. While this will also lead to even worse overcharging problems, it is hard on the battery when you start charging it before it’s anywhere close to empty. Instead, you should only do it when it’s low and keep an eye on it for when it finishes. While this might be more tedious, you need to do it to help with your watch’s longevity.
Clean It Whenever Possible
Finally, the last thing you should do regularly for your smartwatch is clean it whenever you can. Being on your wrist all day will cause it to get covered in dirt and germs. If you use anything wet to clean it off, be sure to turn off the device first. Also, it’s a good idea to use a microfiber cloth to get inside the nooks and crannies of the watch more easily.
